A Brief History of Baseball in Bangladesh
A journey from 15 young players at Paltan Maidan to the international stage.
The Bangladesh Baseball-Softball Association (BBSA) was established on 25 November 2006, marking the formal beginning of baseball in Bangladesh. The founding General Secretary, Aminul Islam Liton, launched the first baseball training camp at Paltan Maidan in Dhaka with 15 young players, laying the foundation of the sport in the country.
Our Journey
The Beginning
Established on November 25, 2006. First training camp launched by Founding General Secretary Aminul Islam Liton with 15 players.
Building Foundations
Japanese volunteer coach Hiroki Watanabe played a pioneering role. Regular training began, followed by the first National Baseball Championship in 2009. BBSA received government recognition.
Strengthening the Core
Inclusion of local coach Talha Yubaer and international coaches. Bangladesh Police and Ansar teams introduced baseball, expanding the competitive framework.
Official Recognition
Received final recognition from the National Sports Council (NSC). Became a member of the Baseball Federation of Asia (BFA) and World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC).
International Success
Achieved 5th place at the 15th West Asia Baseball Cup in Iran. Formation of Ad-hoc Committee led by Mr. Talha Yubaer Panel to accelerate development.

Focusing on grassroots development, Baseball-5 promotion, and sustainable growth across grassroots, national, and international levels.
International Footprint
Bangladesh has participated in tournaments across the region, showcasing steady progress and competitive spirit.

Development
National coaches’ and umpires’ clinics to build technical expertise from the ground up.
Expansion
Expanding baseball across divisions and districts, and introducing Baseball-5 in schools and universities.
Competition
Increased participation in national championships and successful international friendship matches.
